RAIMUNDO DIOGO
February 16, 1953 – October 18, 2024. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raimundo Oliveira De Sousa Diogo, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024. Raimundo was born on February 16, 1953, in Biscoitos, Azores, Portugal, and lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved son of the late Alzira Augusta Oliveira Diogo (March 1922 – August 2011) of Biscoitos, Azores, and Rodrigo De Sousa Diogo (January 1922 – May 2001) of Faial, Azores. Raimundo was predeceased by his brother, Manuel Oliveira Diogo (February 8, 1949 – May 1, 2024), of Biscoitos, Azores, and is survived by his sister, Emilia De Sousa Diogo residing in Tulare, CA.
Raimundo is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lucia Diogo, residing in Tulare, CA. He leaves behind his three cherished daughters: Dora Rudick (husband Jay) of Pittsburgh, PA, and their children, Parker Rudick and Olin Rudick; Claudia Fritzler (husband Brett) of Tulare CA, and their children, Grayson Fritzler and Isabella Fritzler; and Katelin Diogo (fiancé Paul Stewart) of Tulare, CA.
At the age of 21, Raimundo was drafted into the Portuguese Army (Exército Português) and bravely served in Angola for 9 months. He was present in Lisbon on April 25th, Portugal’s Freedom Day, a historical moment in Portugal’s independence.
After his military service, Raimundo began his career at Hotel Angra before becoming a wine distributor for Soc. Comercial Carreiro, LDA and Emater in Angra do Heroismo, Terceira, Azores. In January of 1989, Raimundo emigrated with his wife, Lucia and their young daughters, Dora and Claudia to the San Joaquin Valley in Tulare, CA. In 1995, his third daughter Katelin was born. He embraced the local dairy industry, initially working for Joe Pires Dairy in Tipton, CA, followed by many years at Hoffman Dairy and concluding retirement from Hilarides Cattle Co.
Beyond his professional achievements, Raimundo’s greatest passion in life was his family. He cherished spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. A proud supporter of the Sporting soccer club in Portugal, Raimundo was also an active member of the Tulare Athletic Club for many years. When he wasn’t cheering for his favorite soccer team, you could find him enjoying quiet moments at home with loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Tulare, CA on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Raimundo’s honor to Clovis Medical Center in designation of “Cancer Care” (https://www.communitymedical.org/donate) where he was well treated with love and care by all the doctors, nurses, and staff.

É com grande pesar que anunciamos o falecimento de Raimundo Oliveira De Sousa Diogo, um querido marido, pai e avô, que faleceu pacificamente no dia 18 de Outubro de 2024. Raimundo nasceu a 16 de Fevereiro de 1953, em Biscoitos, Açores, Portugal, e viveu uma vida plena e significativa rodeado pela sua amorosa família.
Era filho querido da falecida Alzira Augusta Oliveira Diogo (Março de 1922 – Agosto de 2011) dos Biscoitos, Açores, e de Rodrigo De Sousa Diogo (Janeiro de 1922 – Maio de 2001) do Faial, Açores. Raimundo foi precedido no falecimento pelo irmão, Manuel Oliveira Diogo (Fevereiro de 1949 – Maio de 2024), natural de Biscoitos, Açores, e deixa a irmã, Emília De Sousa Diogo de Tulare, CA.
Raimundo deixa a sua extremosa e dedicada esposa, Lucia Diogo, residente em Tulare, CA. Deixa para trás as suas três queridas filhas: Dora Rudick (marido Jay) de Pittsburgh, PA, e os seus filhos, Parker Rudick e Olin Rudick; Claudia Fritzler (marido Brett) de Tulare CA, e os seus filhos, Grayson Fritzler e Isabella Fritzler; e Katelin Diogo (noivo Paul Stewart) de Tulare, CA.
Aos 21 anos, Raimundo foi convocado para o Exército Português e serviu bravamente em Angola durante 9 meses. Esteve presente em Lisboa no dia 25 de Abril, Dia da Liberdade de Portugal, um momento histórico da independência de Portugal.
Após o serviço militar, Raimundo iniciou a sua carreira no Hotel Angra antes de se tornar distribuidor de vinhos do Soc. Comercial Carreiro, LDA e Emater em Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira, Açores. Em Janeiro de 1989, Raimundo emigrou com a sua esposa, Lúcia e as suas filhas Dora e Claudia, para San Joaquin Valley, em Tulare, CA. Em 1995 nasceu a sua terceira filha, Katelin. Abraçou a indústria local de laticínios, trabalhando inicialmente para a Joe Pires Dairy em Tipton, CA, depois na Hoffman Dairy e concluindo a sua reforma na Hilarides Cattle Co.
Para além das conquistas profissionais, a maior paixão da vida de Raimundo era a família. Adorava passar tempo com a sua esposa, filhas e netos. Orgulhoso adepto do clube de futebol Sporting em Portugal, Raimundo foi também membro ativo do Tulare Athletic Club durante muitos anos. Quando não estava a torcer pela sua equipa de futebol favorita, podia encontrá-lo a desfrutar de momentos tranquilos em casa com os seus entes queridos.
Será realizado um serviço memorial na Igreja Católica de Santa Rita em Tulare, CA na Sexta-Feira, 25 de Outubro de 2024, às 9h30.
