JOE CASTELLANOZ JR.
Joe Castellanoz Jr. was born in Tulare, CA on October 27, 1942. He was the eighth of sixteen children born to Jose and Dominga Castellanoz. He departed this life on November 12, 2024.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Ofilia Castellanoz. His children, Margaret (Margie), Reyes, Frank (Shorty), Celina, and Caroline Castellanoz, are all of Tulare. Grandchildren, Michelle Gonzales Costa, Michael Gonzales, Alaynna Gonzales Harris, Laryssa Castellanoz Chase, Noelle, Brandon, Genesis, Erik, and Kristen Castellanoz. 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was a farm and ranch foreman before retiring in 2001. He had a great passion for agriculture which was evident in his lifelong career choice. He loved trees, planting, and watching things grow. This passion was something he shared and passed on to his children and many of his grandchildren. He spent many hours tending to his trees and garden at home. He was always happy sitting on one of his tractors as often as he could. Joe was also an amazing welder and fabricator. He could design and create whatever he needed to get a job done. He always said, “When there’s a will, there’s a way”. He always found a way. His love for nature was also reflected away from work. Some of his favorite pastimes were long drives in the country or a trip to his favorite places, the mountains or the beach. Many family camping trips will be remembered by his children and grandchildren.
He was a man of God with a deep love for his church and Catholic faith. He taught catechism at St. Rita’s to adults, teens, and children for many years. Sharing his love and knowledge of the Lord, especially with the younger generation who were very important to him. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.
Joe was a humble and wise man of great integrity. He loved sharing and telling stories with everyone, as he never met a stranger. He was quick to lend a helping hand and believed in treating others with kindness and respect. He was affectionately referred to by most as “Papa Joe” whether they were family or not.
Family, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and especially his wife, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were one of his biggest sources of pride and joy. He was always there for encouragement, advice, and love. He led by example and left us with a true legacy. He will be forever missed, and we each carry him in our hearts.
