LINDA DIANE (FRANKS) CRASE

Linda Diane (Franks) Crase was born May 8, 1947, in Tulare, CA, and passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, with her family at her bedside.  She was the oldest child born to Maxine (Colpien, Stuhaan) and Ray Franks.  Her parents named her after a favorite song written in 1942, “Linda”.  Linda attended Enterprise and Oak Valley Elementary Schools, and Tulare Western High School where she graduated with the class of 1965.   At Western, she was a member of the marching band and the Girls Athletic Association. Linda continued her education at College of the Sequoias earning an AA Degree in Business.  She married Stephen Dewane Crase on his birthday, August 2, 1969.  She always said it was so Dewane wouldn’t forget their anniversary.  They had met at her 8th-grade graduation and attended high school together.  In her early career, she worked at Gottschalks, Josten’s Yearbook, and George Zarounian Mobile Home Sales.

Linda and Dewane purchased Stop-N-Shop Market on Lovers Lane in Visalia and operated it for five years.  Linda then went on to work at Tulare District Hospital as an assistant in the Community Relations Department and ended her 24-year career as the Director of Community Relations.  Linda was well known in Tulare for her commitment to Public Health by establishing the Tulare District Hospital Volunteer Program, and being a member of the Tulare District Hospital Management Team, Tulare Hospital Foundation, and the Evolutions Oversight Committee.  Linda loved and supported the City of Tulare.  Linda was a member of the First Tulare Leadership Class (1992), Tulare Business & Professional Women, Hospital Tower Construction Committee, Tulare Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, and the Tulare Chamber of Commerce.  Linda also served 2 terms as a Tulare City Councilwoman, served as Planning Commissioner for the City of Tulare, and was always supportive of development for her hometown.  Linda and Dewane, along with other neighbors, started the annual Christmas decorating on Kaweah Drive.  They displayed the Mice Orchestra and Choir.  Every year thousands of cans of food were collected for needy families for over 20 years.  Families would come from all over the Central Valley, driving through Kaweah Drive at Christmas time.  This became a tradition for many Tulare families every year.

Linda and Dewane raised 2 children, Kathleen (Crase) Lopes, (spouse Johnny Lopes) of Tulare and Stephen Crase, (spouse Kristen Crase) of Sacramento.  Both Linda and Dewane were very supportive of their children’s sports activities.  Linda and Dewane also served as members of the PTA’s, Tulare Union High School Parent Support Group and TUHS Band Boosters.

Linda enjoyed baking, cooking, Monday night dinners with high school friends, playing Mahjong and lunches or shopping with her girlfriends.  But by far her greatest joy was time spent babysitting, attending games, and baking special holiday cookies with her five grandchildren, Tristen Lopes, Carson Lopes, Brooklyn Lopes, Peyton Lopes, and Madison Crase.  Linda was predeceased in death by her parents, Maxine Stuhaan and Ray Franks.  She is survived by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and their spouses, Joan (Franks) Abercrombie (Washington), Robert Franks (Margaret Franks, Tennessee), and Sherrie (Franks) Munday (Ernie Munday, Tulare) as well as many nieces, nephews, and aunts.  As the matriarch of the family, she kept in touch with all the extended family and those phone conversations will be missed.

Services are entrusted to Peers-Lorentzen Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be Friday, February 16th, 1 pm at the Tulare Cemetery on Blackstone and Kern.  Reception following services at Tulare Angrense Athletic Club, 1521 East Bardsley Avenue, Tulare.
